Montford Point Marine Memorial Night View

The proposed Montford Point Marine Memorial will be located at Lejeune Memorial Gardens, which rests at the corner of Montford Landing road and Highway 24.

“We must continue to champion the cause for the preservation of the legacy. For this is not just Black history, or Marine Corps History. This is American History, and the World should know.”

– Dr. James T. Averhart Jr., National President of MPMA, Inc.

“Despite being denied many basic rights, the Montford Point Marines committed to serve our country with selfless patriotism... Embodying the Marine Corps motto of Semper Fidelis, Always Faithful, these heroes paved the way for future generations of warriors, regardless of background, to serve in the finest military the world has ever known.”

“The Montford Point Marines’ led the way for future generations of African-Americans... their bravery and perseverance should be remembered as an example of patriotism and loyal service despite the significant challenges they faced.

- Senator Richard Burr, North Carolina

“For the last 60 years, these old training grounds at Montford Point, Carolina, have reminded us of the courage, determination, and perseverance of the young men who once stood in formation here.”

– General James Conway, 34th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps

“Every Marine — from private to general — will know the history of those men who crossed the threshold to fight not only the enemy they were soon to know overseas, but the enemy of racism and segregation in their own country.”

- James Amos: 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps
